I decided to make it an outdoor table that will go next to a wooden bench next to the back porch.
Since I knew I was going to use it outdoors , I spent zero time cleaning it up. No cleaning , sanding etc. I basically just wiped it off.
I bought a can of flat white spray paint that included a primer. If you were to do this for an indoor project I would highly recommend sanding the top lightly.
I only painted the top surfaces. I did not paint the center as I wanted to keep it natural and I will be adding some rope.
I have a navy and white chevron rug on the back porch so I wanted to stick with navy as an accent color.
I had no idea how hard it would be to find navy flat spray paint. I looked at Meijer, Walmart, Lowes and Home Depot with no luck. Anything dark blue was glossy. I finally found this midnight blue at the Anderson's.
I bought some 3" wide painters tape and taped some stripes.
There was no fancy measuring. I just tried to make them even and did it by just eying it. (Attention to detail is probably not my strong suit).
I painted just a couple of coats of the blue. And removed the painters tape after it dried. (Also not that patient so it was probably still wet:) )
When I pulled off the tape there were a few areas where the white paint came off. I was going to touch it up but my daughter liked it the way it was so I'm keeping it that way. I also did not put the stripes on the base. Just thought it looked better plain.
Lastly was the rope. Again not too exact on the project so I had no clue how much I needed. I went to Lowes and took a wild guess. They sell this 3/4" Manila rope by the foot. I thought 50' looked like enough. I was pretty close. The middle of the spool already had a hole close to the base so I stuck one end of the rope in the hole and started walking the rope around the spool. I didn't use any adhesive, nails or staples. It was a little shorter than I would have liked but I will just space it out so its more even.
This project was exactly what I wanted it to be. ..incredibly easy, very little time and very reasonably priced.
Spool-free
Paint- $ 8.00
Tape - $ 5.00
Rope - $ 30.00 (surprised me a little)
